Food Security Policies Formulation and Implementation Course

INTRODUCTION

Community food security is the condition which exists when all of the members of a community have access in close proximity; to adequate amounts of nutritious, culturally appropriate food at all times, from sources that are environmentally sound and just. Food security policies are developed to nurture the development of a food secure state in which all of its citizens are hunger-free, healthy and benefit from the food systems that impact their lives. The policies also affirms the commitment to supporting sustainable food systems that provide people with high quality food, employment, and that also contribute to the long-term well-being of the environment.

This five day training programme shall enlighten the participants on food policy formulation process and implementation to enhance a food secure economy.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the end of the training, the learner will be able to:

  • Understand the need for policies aiming at improving food security.

  • Know the main features of food security policies.

  • Understand the role and functions of the relevant stakeholders in food security policy formulation and implementation.

  • Define the purpose of a monitoring and evaluation system for food security policies and identify the approaches and methods to be applied.

  • Describe the sequence of steps to be performed in the process of FSP formulation and implementation.

  • Understand FSPs as link between food security information and actions aimed at improving the food security situation.

  • Relate Food Security Policies (FSPs) to a framework for action to combat hunger and alleviate food insecurity in a country.

REQUIREMENTS

Participants should be reasonably proficient in English. Applicants must live up to Indepth Research Services (IRES) admission criteria.

METHODOLOGY

The instructor led trainings are delivered using a blended learning approach and comprises of presentations, guided sessions of practical exercise, web based tutorials and group work. Our facilitators are seasoned industry experts with years of experience, working as professional and trainers in these fields.

All facilitation and course materials will be offered in English. The participants should be reasonably proficient in English.

ACCREDITATION

Upon successful completion of this training, participants will be issued with an Indepth Research Services (IRES) certificate.

TRAINING VENUE

The training is residential and will be held at IRES Training Centre. The course fee covers the course tuition, training materials, two break refreshments, lunch, and study visits.

All participants will additionally cater for their, travel expenses, visa application, insurance, and other personal expenses.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Payment for the all courses includes a registration fee, which is non-refundable, and equals 15% of the total sum of the course fee.

1.     Participants may cancel attendance 14 days or more prior to the training commencement date.

2.     No refunds will be made 14 days or less to the training commencement date. However, participants who are unable to attend may opt to attend a similar training at a later date, or send a substitute participant provided the participation criteria have been met.
