Upcoming Trends in Mobile Data Collection

Tick Tock, it is past 12 midnight, my eyes are heavy with sleep, almost shutting down as I sip the last drop remaining in my coffee mug. Writing is one way that helps me relieve stress and I must speak out my mind before retiring to bed.

Just the other day I was invited for a training workshop, now we are almost coming to end of week one of the training. Wow! time flies. Before I dig deeper into the details of the training workshop experience, I want to share something interesting…

I read a research article some time back which explained two main parts of a human brain, the right and left hemisphere of the brain. The right hemisphere is responsible for control of the left side of the body and is the more artistic and creative side of the brain. The left hemisphere controls the right side of the body and is the more academic and logical side of the brain. These activities in human’s body includes: Analytic thoughts, Logic, Language, Reasoning, Science and Math, Numbers and written skills

Now lets discuss the right hemisphere; scientists believe that this is the part of the brain that controls the intelligence of a man. This includes: Creativity, Art Awareness, Imagination, Intuition, Insight, Holistic thoughts, Music awareness and 3-D forms. Researchers add that the most successful people we see in the world have managed to discover the power of the right hemisphere and pushed it beyond unimaginable limit. To excel in any field, you really have to push the genius out of yourself, which is tough and that is exactly what IRES Kenya is doing. The harder the battle, the sweeter the victory.  IRES Kenya has set new standard of bringing intelligence out of developers across different parts of the continent.

Away from science, the first week of the training started with introduction to Mobile Phone Based data collection Using ODK. This is a basic requirement of any developer as software development is moving to the cloud and can be done remotely in collaboration with the other developers worldwide. Then followed the test driven development, to be honest, I never cared much about  Test Driven Development  (TDD) and considered it less important. That negative perspective has completely gone and now I have realized  how crucial the (TDD) is as I tackle my assigned tasks. This is what I call growth, Thank you IRES Kenya for this golden opportunity being availed to people through short training courses.

As a leading advocate of ICT4D and Mobile Technologies, IRES Kenya has organized a five days course on  Mobile Phone Based data collection Using ODK, that aims at  introducing participants to tools and techniques to gather data for projects outcomes to stake holders using innovative mobile data gathering tools, within both the governing and industry workforce. The training will help one become familiar with using ICT tools and methods for data collection, statistical analysis and reporting.
