INTRODUCTION
Quantum GIS (QGIS) is a user friendly Free and Open Source Geographic Information System (GIS) that runs on Windows, Linux, Unix, and Mac OSX and supports numerous vector, raster, and database formats and functionalities. Quantum GIS provides a continuously growing number of capabilities provided by core functions and plugins. You can visualize, manage, edit, analyze data, and compose printable maps. Open source GIS is becoming increasingly popular worldwide and Quantum GIS is one example of a range of alternatives.
The course will introduce Quantum GIS (QGIS) as an open source geographic information systems software package. The basic tools and functionality of the software will be demonstrated as well as a number of more advanced functions. Participants will get hands-on experience of the software in order to gain a clear and concise understanding of its usage.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Quantum GIS (QGIS) is the ideal professional desktop GIS for any application. If you are new to GIS, new to Open Source GIS or have been using other GIS software and want to learn how to work in Quantum GIS, this course is right for you.

LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTION
All facilitation and course materials will be offered in English. The participants should be reasonably proficient in English.
ACCREDITATION
Upon successful completion of this training, participants will be issued with an Indepth Research Services (IRES) certificate.
TRAINING FEESThe standard Fees for the training is KES 35,200 or USD 470 Exclusive of VAT (Add 16%). The training fee covers tuition, training materials, refreshments and lunch.

TRAINING VENUE AND ACCOMMODATION
The training is residential, and will be held at Sportsview Hotel, Kasarani. Applicants are highly encouraged to stay at the hotel where the training is held.
The standard course fee is KES 35,200 or USD 470. This covers the course tuition, training materials, two break refreshments, lunch, and study visits.
The rooms’ rate is approximately US$ 60 per day. This includes bed, breakfast and dinners. Note this is a negotiated rate between IRES and the Hotel management.
All participants will additionally cater for their, travel expenses, visa application, insurance, and other personal expenses.
