INTRODUCTION     

Physicians, nurses, epidemiologists, and other public health workers lacking a background in information technology often have a need for simple tools that allow the rapid creation of data collection instruments and data analysis, visualization, and reporting using epidemiologic methods.

Epi Info is  a suite of lightweight software tools that delivers core ad-hoc epidemiologic functionality without the complexity or expense of large, enterprise applications.Epi Info is flexible, scalable, and free while enabling data collection, advanced statistical analyses, and geographic information system (GIS) mapping capability.

This training specifically deals with Management and analysis of health and epidemiological data using Epi Info. The training combines theoretical foundations with methodological perspectives and technical exercises, aiming at training participants in the concrete uses of quantitative data in health and epidemiological research using Epi Info.

The training also explore quantitative data gathering tools with particular focus on emerging tools for rapid data gathering such as mobile data gathering, SMS Surveys and Online surveys and how to integrate the data so obtained into EPI Info.      

FOR WHOM IS THE TRAINING RELEVANT

Physicians, Nurses, epidemiologists, public health workers, Researchers, Data Analysts, Statisticians, Community Development Practitioners, Nutritionist, Monitoring and Evaluation Practioners of Health based programs, Food Security and Livelihood practioners, Research Student,  Program Managers and executives who use or intend to use Epi Info as a tool to analyse the data they collect in their organisations

REQUIREMENTS

The participants are required to have a good command of the English language and reasonable computing skills. Prior knowledge in Epi Info and Statistics is an added advantage but not compulsory

CLASS SIZE

The class size is limited to 10 participants to ensure that each participants has the opportunity to interact with the facilitator. The training may be cancelled if there are less than five participants.

  • Generating Epi Curves
  • Introduction to GIS and Remote Sensing
  • Using Epi Map
  • Creating Reports using EPI Report

  • Mobile Data Gathering (Google Open Data Kit - ODK)

METHODOLOGY

The instructor led trainings are delivered using a blended learning approach and comprises of presentations, guided sessions of practical exercise, web based tutorials and group work. Our facilitators are seasoned industry experts with years of experience, working as professional and trainers in these fields. All facilitation and course materials will be offered in English. The participants should be reasonably proficient in English.

ACCREDITATION

Upon successful completion of this training, participants will be issued with an Indepth Research Services (IRES) certificate.

TRAINING FEES

The standard Fees for the training is KES 65,000 or US$ 867Exclusive of V.A.T. The training fee covers tuition, training materials, refreshments and lunch.

TRAINING VENUE AND ACCOMMODATION

The training is residential, and will be held at Sportsview Hotel, Kasarani. Applicants are highly encouraged to stay at the hotel where the training is held.

The standard course fee is KES 65,000 or US$ 867. This covers the course tuition, training materials, two break refreshments, lunch, and study visits.

The rooms’ rate is approximately US$ 60 per day. This includes bed, breakfast and dinners. Note this is a negotiated rate between IRES and the Hotel management.

All participants will additionally cater for their, travel expenses, visa application, insurance, and other personal expenses.
