How to Influence Decision Makers to Take up Research Course

INTRODUCTION

The art of presenting your ideas, action points or recommendations to an audience in a simple way within a short amount of time is known as “pitching”. It’s an important skill to have – if you can’t explain your opinion, your recommendation or your work to an important audience then how are you going to make any difference or get anyone to take up your research? Let’s stop missing opportunities to get our key messages into the public domain and into decision makers’ minds.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

This course is aimed at CEOs, directors and senior managers of public agencies, Programme and project leaders, programme officers, managers, senior heads of research organizations, researcher and other humanitarian and development agencies staff whose roles involve producing proposals and reports for their organization.

OBJECTIVES

  • Participants will be able to prepare an effective pitch.
  • Participants will be able to frame/tailor a message for different audiences.
  • Participants will be able to presenting an idea/opinion/message clearly through identifying and communicating a clear ‘ask’.

  • Factors that influence Decision Making
  • How you can prepare and deliver a “pitch” to reach specific target audiences.
  • How to communicate research, key messages, and recommendations more effectively, short message about your work and know exactly what they are asking of their listener.
  • Interactive introduction and making the case for always having a clear message in your pocket and some easy Dos and Dont’s
  • Practical sessions on individual pitches and feedback from listeners and facilitators.
  • The impact of research on decision-making by practitioners and managers
  • Case studies from country based examples.
  •  There will also be time for a re-pitch for those who want to incorporate feedback they received

METHODOLOGY

The instructor led trainings are delivered using a blended learning approach and comprises of presentations, guided sessions of practical exercise, web based tutorials and group work. Our facilitators are seasoned industry experts with years of experience, working as professional and trainers in these fields.

All facilitation and course materials will be offered in English. The participants should be reasonably proficient in English.

ACCREDITATION

Upon successful completion of this training, participants will be issued with an Indepth Research Services (IRES) certificate.

TRAINING VENUE

The training is residential and will be held at IRES training Centre.The course fee covers the course tuition, training materials, two break refreshments, lunch, and study visits.

All participants will additionally cater for their, travel expenses, visa application, insurance, and other personal expenses.

Payment should be transferred to IRES account through bank on or before C.O.B. 11th September 2017

CANCELLATION POLICY

Payment for the all courses includes a registration fee, which is non-refundable, and equals 15% of the total sum of the course fee.

1.    Participants may cancel attendance 14 days or more prior to the training commencement date.

2.    No refunds will be made 14 days or less to the training commencement date. However, participants who are unable to attend may opt to attend a similar training at a later date, or send a substitute participant provided the participation criteria have been met.
