Project Description

The Kenya Education Sector Support Programme (KESSEP), initiated by the Ministry of Education, was designed to enhance access, equity, and quality in the country's education system.

To assess and improve the literacy and numeracy skills of pupils in Kiambu County, Kenya, KESSEP) sought to conduct a comprehensive pilot study.

The goal was to gather data-driven insights that would inform educational policies and interventions.

To achieve this, we partnered with KESSEP to design and implement a rigorous literacy and numeracy testing survey.

Project Execution and Key Deliverables

We conducted a structured survey focused on evaluating pupils' competencies in reading, writing, and mathematics.

The project encompassed the following:

  1. Providing a Sample for the Study: A carefully selected representative sample was identified to ensure diverse and accurate data collection.
  2. Developing Survey Protocols: Standardized guidelines and methodologies were developed to maintain consistency and reliability.
  3. Developing Datasets: High-quality data was compiled for further analysis and policy application.
  4. Survey Report: A comprehensive report was generated, providing key findings and actionable recommendations.

Impact

The findings from this pilot study provided valuable insights into the literacy and numeracy levels of students in Kiambu County.

The project:

  1. Highlighted critical learning gaps, allowing stakeholders to design targeted interventions.
  2. Provided data-driven recommendations to inform curriculum improvements and teaching strategies.
  3. Established a replicable survey model, which can be expanded to other regions to enhance national education outcomes.

By leveraging research and analytics, we helped the Ministry of Education significantly improve educational quality and student performance.
